Below is a list of some other specialist services offered within the Practice. Please note that most of these are by appointment only. Ask at Reception for further details, if necessary.

Immunisation for Foreign Travel service
Please see a nurse 6 weeks before travelling (by Appointment only). Please note that a fee may be payable via cheque (with guarantee card) or cash.

Over 75 Health Check service
Each year we offer all our patients aged over 75 years a basic health assessment. This is by Appointment only.

Stop Smoking Clinics
We have an in-house smoking cessation counsellor who can give advice and provide support for those wishing to give up smoking. If you would be interested in attending this clinic please pick up a leaflet at the reception desk

Blood Tests and X-Ray Results
Please ring for test results in the afternoon after 2.00 pm. If you ring for results at other times you may be asked to ring back later.

Fresh Start Clinic (Alcohol)

Among our standard medical services Bridge lane also runs  the “Fresh start” clinic.  We are pleased to offer this service for patients suffering from alcohol dependency requiring alcohol detoxification . Dr Coetzee is the lead GP for this existing new service. .

This service is the first of it’s kind in the primary care and we hope to see the development of more clinics within the borough of Wandsworth. If you suffer from alcohol dependency, you can access the service either by obtaining a referral from your usual GP or make a self referral to Fresh Start clinic. You can do this by telephoning in the afternoon and book your

 

DRUGS MISUSE CLINIC

In addition to the management of Alcohol Misuse, we also offer a Substance Misuse Service. We are able to initiate Methadone or Buprenorphine in Opiod addiction. We also offer treatment for patients regeisterd with Bridge Lane that misuse Cocaine, Crack Cocaine and Cannabis. Please book an appointment with Dr Coetzee for an assessment 

 

DERMATOLOGY

The surgery has its own dermatology clinic. This is referral based clinic which means you will need to see your GP first for a consultation in order to access this service.

 

BABY CLINIC

The practice run baby clinic is run on Tuesdays between 1:15pm and 2:45pm . This is supported by the practice nurses and health visitors.

 

The community health visitor run clinic is on Fridays 09:30am to  11:30am. This is a walk in service where you can weigh your baby and discuss and post natal/baby questions to one of the health visitors

 

CHILD IMMUNISATIONS

The national immunisation programme for children starts at the age of 2 months. The health authority will remind you when to make an appointment to bring you child/children to see the practice nurse.

 

FAMILY PLANNING

Family planning advice can be given by GPs though the surgery runs two drop in family planning clinics staffed by dedicated health professionals who are able to offer advice and contraception. These clinics are drop in service and do not require an appointment. We currently run these clinics on Tues 6pm—8pm and Fridays 2pm –4pm . You may also be able to get information at your local pharmacy.

 

PODIATRY CLINIC(Chiropody)

As you may or may not be aware Bridge Lane offer a podiatry service. This service is based in the health centre and is able to carry out a range of procedures that will help with your mobility. With Podiatry, attention is directed towards walking , sporting injuries involving the foot, ankle, knee, hip and back. We promote podiatry not only as a ‘treatment’ but a positive lifestyle choice ­ maintaining general foot health and preventing future mobility problems. The clinic is referral based so you will need to either speak to your GP or contact the podiatry clinic at Queen Mary’s Hospital on 0208 487 6426

 

MEDICAL STUDENTS

We fully participate in undergraduate training. We would be grateful if you would accept them as part of our health care team.

 

TRIAGE PATIENTS

Sometimes you may not need to see a doctor but would like some advice regarding a condition or ailment, or you may need medical advice. In these instances we get a “triage” nurse to telephone you and ascertain what the best course of action will be. You may be advised that you need to see a GP or indeed be advised to go to a pharmacy  and purchase an over the counter remedy

 

 

FLU CLINIC

 We hold seasonal Flu clinic every year for those that are most in need of inoculation  Those entitled to seasonal flu vaccine include patients with:

 

chronic respiratory disease, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),

chronic heart disease, such as heart failure,

chronic kidney disease, such as kidney failure,

chronic liver disease, such as chronic hepatitis,

diabetes requiring insulin or oral hypoglycaemic drugs, and

immunosupression (a suppressed immune system), due to disease or treatment.

 

We generally write to those eligible during the beginning of autumn inviting them to receive their jab. Along with the seasonal flu clinic we also run special hybrid clinic such as during the Swine flu outbreak

 

SPIROMETRY

Spirometry is a test that can help diagnose various lung conditions, most commonly COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Spirometry is also used to monitor the severity of certain lung conditions, and their response to treatment.

spirometer is a device which measures the amount of air that you can blow out. There are various spirometer devices made by different companies, but they all measure the same thing. They all have a mouthpiece that you use to blow into the device. A doctor or nurse may ask you to blow into a spirometer ('spirometry') if you have chest or lung symptoms

 

PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapists help people of all ages who have physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing. Physiotherapy, sometimes referred to as physio, helps people to improve their range of movement in order to promote health and well being. This can help people to live more independently. After making an appointment to see your GP, you may be referred to a physiotherapist. Your GP will ask you about your symptoms and decide whether you will benefit from receiving physiotherapy.

 

CERVICAL SMEARS

The female practice nurses carry out regular cervical smears as part of the screening programme. We recommend that smears should be done every 3 years or 5 years after the age of 50.
